The G. Loomis name has long been associated with premium fishing rods, particularly renowned for their GLX series. Recently upgraded, the GLX rods are set to impress both avid and casual anglers with their advanced features and innovative design. "The name G. Loomis is synonymous with high-quality fishing rods," said Shane Beilue, a contributor for Game & Fish, who evaluated these revamped rods.
The aesthetics of the new GLX series first capture attention, boasting a sleek muted black finish complemented by subtle golden lettering. This combination not only looks sharp but also conveys sophistication and elegance on the water.
G. Loomis has introduced several key enhancements to the GLX series, one of which is the CI4+ reel seat. This component, already praised in their elite NRX+ series, is lighter and offers improved sensitivity. "The CI4+ reel seat offers improved sensitivity and is more rigid," a G. Loomis representative noted. This upgrade creates a stronger bond between the rod and reel, enhancing performance when battling hefty catches.
Weight reduction continues with the incorporation of the Fuji K tangle-free guide train, designed with silicon carbide (SiC) inserts. "The tangle-free designation refers to a wider base at the foot of the guides to prevent braided line from forming a wind knot or loop around the guide," explained Beilue. This thoughtful design helps to minimize frustration while on the water.
To test these enhancements, Beilue focused on the GLX 894C JWR model—a 7-foot, 5-inch heavy-action rod ideal for techniques such as dragging worms and jigs offshore. He also experimented with different lures, utilizing braided line for fishing shallow waters with swim jigs and buzz toads to fully gauge the rod's capabilities.
On the water, the performance of the upgraded GLX rod is notable. "The updated GLX rod is everything G. Loomis advertises: superbly balanced, lightweight and highly sensitive," said Beilue.
While attempting to drag a 3/8-ounce shaky head offshore, the rod's responsive nature provided vital feedback, allowing for precise movements and enhanced control. The balance and sensitivity were significant factors in connecting with fish, making it clear this rod is designed for serious bass fishing.
Overall, the improvements to the G. Loomis GLX series position them as formidable tools in the tackle boxes of enthusiasts. With their stylish design, technical enhancements, and exceptional performance, these rods maintain the brand’s prestigious reputation while catering to the evolving needs of anglers.
As the fishing industry continues to innovate, the GLX series stands out as a prime choice for those looking to elevate their fishing experience. The future looks bright for anglers seeking high-performance gear, particularly with trusted names like G. Loomis leading the charge.
